Ingrown toenails are a common issue where the corner or side of the toenail grows into the surrounding skin, causing pain, swelling, and sometimes infection. While anyone can experience an ingrown toenail, they are more frequent in those who wear tight shoes, cut nails improperly, or have a genetic predisposition to nail issues. Preventing ingrown toenails starts with proper nail care. Trim nails straight across, avoid cutting them too short, and wear shoes that fit comfortably without pressure on the toes. If you notice any discomfort or swelling around the nail, address it early to avoid complications.

As both a nurse and a mom, I’ve seen how important foot care is for people of all ages. Our feet support us every day, and neglecting them can lead to discomfort and even serious health issues. Whether you're caring for young kids, managing your own foot health, or helping seniors maintain mobility, proper foot care is vital at every stage of life.
For kids, it’s essential to ensure they wear properly fitted shoes and practice good hygiene, including washing and drying their feet daily. Letting children go barefoot when it’s safe helps strengthen their foot muscles and improves balance. Regular foot checks can help prevent problems like blisters or ingrown toenails. As teens and adults, foot care becomes more about prevention. Choosing comfortable, supportive shoes is key, especially for those involved in sports or physically demanding activities. Regular foot stretches and inspections for common issues like bunions or corns can prevent discomfort. Maintaining a healthy weight also reduces strain on the feet and helps prevent conditions like plantar fasciitis. For seniors, foot health becomes even more important due to decreased circulation and conditions like arthritis or diabetes. Daily foot inspections and proper footwear are essential. Seniors should also continue foot exercises and seek professional care when needed to prevent serious issues like infections. As a nurse, I see the long-term benefits of proper foot care, and as a mom, I know the importance of setting a good example for my kids. I’m happy to offer foot care services to our community, helping people of all ages stay mobile and pain-free. Healthy feet lead to a better quality of life at any age.
