What is an ingrown toenail treatment?
First we discuss where the added pressure/pain is coming from, discuss a treatment plan, then we provide ingrown toenail treatment. First we clean the nail, trim and remove the part of the nail that is puncturing the skin, file down any thickness that is adding pressure to the skin in contact with the nail, and apply a nail correction band. The nail correction band will relieve pressure and guide the nail to grow to its natural nail form by applying the band closest to the cuticle.
Nail Correction Band: Non-surgical, painless solution designed to be applied to the nail closest to the cuticle, effectively "freezing" the nail in its current shape. This evidence-based treatment addresses various nail concerns, such as preventing edges from bending inward, detaching, splitting, and excessive thickening. Onyfix ensures your nails return to their natural form during the growth process, offering immediate relief from the discomfort of ingrown toenails and involuted toenails.
What does a foot care appointment include?
We will clean your feet, trim & file nails, reduce thick & fungal nails, removal of overgrown cuticles. reduction of calluses, removal of corns, cleanse, apply a hot towel, moisturize with PODO Expert products, a light massage to stimulate circulation and finish with an application of PODO nail tincture. For diabetic assessments, a tuning fork and monofilament is used to check for loss of feeling on your foot. (60 minutes)
Do you soak feet during the foot care service?
You may be surprised but KC Medical actually does not recommend foot soaks before the appointment and we do not offer foot soaks. The reason for this is, there is a "risk" or possible "chance" that the skin could get injured after the foot soak and cause an infection. By removing this service from foot care nursing, this takes away the possible chance of infection or injury during a foot care appointment.
1. Why is foot care important? Foot care is essential because your feet support the weight of your body and help you move around. Proper foot care can prevent discomfort, infections, and long-term foot issues, such as bunions, corns, or plantar fasciitis.
2. How often should I wash my feet? It’s important to wash your feet daily with warm water and mild soap. Make sure to dry them completely, especially between the toes, to prevent fungal infections like athlete’s foot.
3. What are the best shoes for foot health? Shoes with good arch support, cushioning, and a proper fit are key to foot health. Look for shoes that don’t pinch your toes and allow for natural movement. Avoid high heels and narrow shoes for long periods.
4. How can I prevent foot odour? To prevent foot odour, wash your feet regularly, wear clean socks made of breathable material (like cotton or moisture-wicking fabrics), and choose shoes that allow your feet to breathe. You can also use our anti-fungal shoe spray if needed.
5. What should I do if I have calluses or corns? If you have calluses or corns, it’s important to avoid excessive friction. Use a foot file to gently remove thickened skin, but never cut or shave the area. We remove the corns and calluses with our PRO VAC drill with different types of burrs and will recommend a treatment plan for preventative measures moving forward.
6. How can I treat athlete’s foot? Athlete’s foot can be treated with regular foot care appointments, our anti-fungal PODO dry, reddened and itching skin foam and/or our nail tincture spray. Keep your feet clean and dry, avoid sharing shoes with others, and avoid walking barefoot in public places like pools or locker rooms.
7. How can I relieve foot pain from standing all day? To relieve foot pain, try elevating your feet, using supportive insoles, or soaking your feet in warm water with Epsom salts. Stretching your calves and feet and using foot massages may also help reduce discomfort.
8. How can I care for my toenails? Trim your toenails regularly to keep them at a manageable length. Cut them straight across to avoid ingrown toenails, and file any sharp edges.
9. What are the signs of a serious foot problem? Signs of serious foot problems include persistent pain, swelling, redness, open sores or wounds that don’t heal, changes in skin colour or temperature, and difficulty walking. If you notice any of these, it’s important to consult a healthcare professional.
10. How can I keep my feet moisturized? Use a foot cream or lotion daily that contains urea to keep your feet moisturized. Pay special attention to areas like the heels and soles, which can become dry or cracked. Avoid applying lotion between your toes to prevent fungal growth, our products are safe to apply between the toes and are safe for clients that are immunocompromised or are diabetic.
11. How can I prevent blisters? Blisters are often caused by friction from ill-fitting shoes. To prevent them, ensure your shoes fit properly and wear moisture-wicking socks. If you’re prone to blisters, consider using blister pads or protective bandages on sensitive areas. It may be time for an assessment!
12. Can diabetes affect my feet? Yes, diabetes can affect your feet due to poor circulation and nerve damage. It’s important to check your feet regularly for cuts, blisters, or other issues. Keep your feet clean, dry, and well-moisturized.
